Today we were shocked by the announcement that Arch Enemy frontwoman Angela Gossow is leaving the band.
Arch Enemy’s album “Anthems of Rebellion” was the first I listened to from the band and it’s hard to
imagine anyone else in that position. Angela will still participate in the band as their manager. I know
she would not have made this decision lightly so she must have faith in Alissa’s skills. I was a little
surprised to learn that this is my 11th year of listening to the band. Time sure flies.
Alissa White-Gluz will take her place behind the mic. I’m not familiar with her former band The Agonist
and only know her as a guest vocalist for Kamelot’s latest album and tour. I have to say that the version
of “March of Mephisto” was pretty damn good.
The first song from the upcoming album “War Eternal” will be revealed on the 20th.
We’ll have to see how she does.
UPDATE:
So the video is out. It’s.. different. It’s still Arch Enemy at the core. Crunchy guitars, high speed
ass-kicking by Amott and Cordell and double bass drumming. Alissa voice isn’t a carbon copy of Angela
with her slightly higher pitched growls and feels a little less primal. We’ll have to wait and see how
the rest of the album goes.
