Within Temptation’s sixth album, “Hydra,” is released today. Their previous album, “The Unforgiving,” was released just shy of three years ago. “Unlike The Unforgiving,” “Hydra” is a not a concept album and has no backing media like The Unforgiving’s comics and short films.
One thing “Hydra” has are guest vocalists to the tune of Tarja Turunen (formerly of Nightwish), Howard Jones (ex-Killswitch Engage), Dave Primer (Soul Asylum), and strangely enough, rapper Xzibit. Tarja is heavily featured on the first single “Paradise” while Howard Jones lends his voice to the second single, “Dangerous.” “Hydra” follows the trend begun in “The Unforgiving” where Within Temptation’s is moving more and more towards modern rock while still maintaining symphonic elements they are known from.
