Sonata Arctica’s eight album “Pariah’s Child” has been released. It’s a little lighter hearted than some of the other albums, and at times silly (“Cloud Factory,” “Half a Marathon Man”). As much as I like Sonata Arctica (and I do or I wouldn’t have been listening for more than a decade) this one could use some work. We’ll see how the rest of the world receives it. Especially telling will be the set lists when they’re on tour and what songs are played.

Once I heard the opening bits of “What Did You Do in the War, Dad?” I was thinking “yeah, this is how it should be.” Wish more of the album had been like that. “Blood” is a close second minus the 15 seconds starting at about 1:20 which kind of annoyed me. I liked the rest of it besides that and would have been happy if that small section had been excluded.
